The Eternity Cure Blog Tour: Welcome To The Fanged Side + A Giveaway

Welcome to the fifth stop of The Eternity Cure Blog Tour hosted by Kismet Book Touring! I, like so very many of you, am an enormous fan of this series, and today I have the pleasure of trying to lure you over to the fanged side by sharing with you my top three reasons being a vampire in the Blood of Eden world is made of win. Sure, there are some obvious drawbacks, but we're completely ignoring those today and instead reveling in the delusion that vampiredom in these books is the very definition of what it means to be eternally happy. Let's get started shall we?

JENNY'S TOP 3 REASONS IT'S GOOD TO BE
A BLOOD OF EDEN VAMPIRE

1. Time.

This seems obvious right? Of course when you're immortal you suddenly find yourself with an abundance of time on your hands, but I think we all need to approach this from a book blogger/reader/lover of all things book-related standpoint. How many times of have you said to yourself "Self? I wish there were more hours in the day so I can read all the books I want to read." I'm pretty sure I've said that 203948209 times. There are also probably about 15 series that every time I see a review for one of the books I've said "I need to start this series!" But do I start it? No. Why you ask? Because usually I just don't have time to start anything new if I want to keep up with all the series I'm currently in love with and/or deeply involved in. *tragic sigh*

Think if you were a vampire though! You would, quite literally, have all the time in the world to read anything and everything you ever wanted (granted books are fairly hard to find in this world, but again, you have time to search for them - like a treasure hunt). That series you've always wanted to read but haven't picked up yet because it's already on book 8 and you don't really have time to go back and read the first 7? No problem. You're going to be alive forever, and forever means you can get a lot of reading done. Am I right?

2. Insta-Family (and in Allie's case, Insta-Family of Awesome)

The Blood of Eden world is a lonely one. Even though most of the remaining humans tend to cluster together (safety in numbers and all that), I think there's an inherent sense of loneliness given the many perils they face on a daily basis. Starvation. Rabids. Illness. Any day could be their last or the last of someone they know, so I think majority of them keep the vulnerable parts of themselves–the emotional parts–locked down tight in self-preservation.

When you're made into a vampire however, you're automatically brought into the fold of a very elite  and often well-to-do family; one you're instantly connected to via a blood tie whether you want it or not. If you're lucky like Allie, you wind up with family like Kanin. And also Jackal. Yes, Jackal is morally questionable and a bit ambiguous in terms of loyalty, but he's hilarious. He'll keep you on your toes and laughing, and when you have nothing but endless days laid out in front of you, someone with a sense of humor, however twisted at times, is worth the pain and aggravation that often accompanies a smart mouth.

3. Badassery

I will be the first to admit that an awe-inspiring and fear-inducing fighter of glorious proportions I am not. Not that I've had any real experience with that sort of thing, but I know for a fact I'd be more the curl-up-in-a-fetal-ball-and-hope-they-don't-see-me type of fighter rather than the much-preferred stay-cool-and-calm-and-scare-them-with-your-prowess type of fighter. In this reality I personally think I rock the fetal ball level of competency, but in Allie's world that simply wouldn't cut it.

If I was a vampire though, I'd have increased strength and heightened senses, not to mention a set of fangs that could do serious damage. Linking back to #1 above, I'd also have time to train. Lots of time. Think of how epic a fighter I would be after a couple years! *pats self on back for potential future fictional fighting magnificence*

Allie's pretty unbelievable with her katana, and who wouldn't revel just a tiny bit in the ability to send shivers down an opponent's spine when they get a look at how well you handle yourself? Now I've kind of talked myself into wanting to take some sort of martial arts class....

Well, there you have it. Those are my top three pros to being a vampire in Allie's world. Have I managed to convince anyone to join Team Vampire? I thought so ;-)

THE ETERNITY CURE

You won’t want to miss book 2 in Julie Kagawa’s dystopian masterpiece, Blood of Eden, optioned for a movie by Palomar Pictures.

How do you face the end of eternity?

In Allison Sekemoto’s world, there is one rule left: Blood calls to blood.

She has done the unthinkable: died so that she might continue to live. Cast out of Eden and separated from the boy she dared to love, Allie will follow the call of blood to save her creator, Kanin, from the psychotic vampire Sarren. But when the trail leads to Allie’s birthplace in New Covington, what Allie finds there will change the world forever-and possibly end human and vampire existence.

JULIE KAGAWA

Julie Kagawa was born in Sacramento, California. But nothing exciting really happened to her there. So, at the age of nine she and her family moved to Hawaii, which she soon discovered was inhabited by large carnivorous insects, colonies of house geckos and frequent hurricanes. She spent much of her time in the ocean, when she wasn’t getting chased out of it by reef sharks, jellyfish and the odd eel.

To pay the rent, Julie worked in different bookstores over the years, but discovered the managers frowned upon her reading the books she was supposed to be shelving. So she turned to her other passion: training animals. She worked as a professional dog trainer for several years, dodging Chihuahua bites and overly enthusiastic Labradors, until her first book sold and she stopped training to write full-time.

Julie now lives in Louisville, Kentucky, where the frequency of shark attacks are at an all-time low. She lives with her husband, two obnoxious cats, one Australian shepherd who is too smart for his own good and the latest addition, a hyperactive Papillon puppy.

  2. I love this post, Jenny! Time is an excellent reason to be a vampire, every blogger should be one. Badassery is another win! Do you know how many times I've watched Buffy wishing I were her? I personally think I excel and the run-and-scream method of fighting, my version of badassery! Lol.

Being a vampire would be better than being Buffy, because of the whole immortality thing, though.

I loved Immortal Rules so I can't wait to read The Eternity Cure! Excellent post as usual, Jenny. :)

    1. RIGHT?! Buffy was definitely badass. And if I wasn't the fetal ball badass, I'd definitely be the run screaming badass:) I think we're rather amazing personally.

  3. Yep, I'm the same in saying that I want to read certain series yet just dont have the time to do it. But I also think I would be in the same situation even if I was a vampire cause there will always be new books releasing. LOL

    1. Probably. But I imagine in the Blood of Eden world there's less writing and publishing happening, so you'd likely be able to get caught up! You'd just have to raid a couple libraries:)

  4. Nice!! I looove this series and continue to look forward to each and every title!

  5. This is such a fun post Jenny! I totally agree with all your points, I have such a massive tbr pile, that being immortal would definitely help control my pile and there would be no time restraints in getting a book read either! Total win! Also I'd love to have a family such as Kanin and Jackal, the fact that they're such polar opposites and would bring so much fun to the mix. I'd love to also have the extra "powers" associated with being a vampire, I'm a total klutz at time so would welcome the heightened senses! :)

    1. I think it's virtually impossible to be a klutzy vampire Jasprit, so you would be a klutz no more once you were fanged! Win for sure. And I love Kanin and Jackal. That is all:)

  6. Definitely TEAM VAMPIRE!! Like you said in your awesome post, there's an insta-family of awesome:))

    Thank you:)

  7. I have to admit that I can see a lot of appeal in being a vampire. Buttttt definitely not in Blood of Eden's world, holy cow it scared the daylights out of me!

  9. HA! Instafamily, I like the new term! I am totally with you on point number one, I have also said that 203948209 times! It would be so great to be able to read ALL the books. Also, I put off starting series too because I am already reading so darn many. And a little badassery never hurts either, right? Great post, Jenny!

  13. Hi Jenny! :)
Thanks for the awesome post! You totally had me at the "You're going to be alive forever, and forever means you can get a lot of reading done" - Team Vamp it is! :) I am not much of a bad-ass - any sort of conflict terrifies me, and sure I'll fight if I'm cornered, but otherwise I tend to stir clear off any drama/conflict/confrontation. So I'll probably be one of those weird vamps, hiding away in some remote castle with a huge library and just reading, reading, reading ;) Ah, that would be so nice! :)

Thank you for this awesome post! :)
    Hugs,
    Evie

I need to re-read the first one before I jump into this one.

    1. Yesssss. Mission accomplished! *happy dance*

  15. #3 is very convincing. I'd have to add myself in your corner about rolling up in a fetal position. Lol. Also balance and flexibility would also be awesome things to have too. Not sure if I want to be a vamp in this world though- much too dangerous!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Jenny, you almost convinced me to become a vampire with your lure of endless hours of reading, BUT>>> I am so burned out on vamps these days and you forgot to mention drinking blood. Sorry no matter how many vamp books I read it still grosses me out. Besides, I always recall my first vamp love, Lois from Interview with a Vampire and how sad and miserable he was and I think I will just take a normal human life. I cannot wait to dig into this book. I am a huge Kagawa fan as she is an amazing world builder. Really and truly, I loved your post, Jenny!

    ReplyDelete
  17. UMMM you had at me at this: "That series you've always wanted to read but haven't picked up yet because it's already on book 8 and you don't really have time to go back and read the first 7? No problem. You're going to be alive forever, and forever means you can get a lot of reading done." That's all I need to hear.

(Though the thought of joining Kanin's fam and being a total badass are also great reasons). Fabulous post, Jenny! I don't really see how anyone could not want to be a vampire after reading this. :-)

Now I just need a rabid to bite me, and I'm set!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Great post! Needed a laugh today, too, so it was perfect. How could I not choose Team V after being subjected to you powers of persuasion?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Sorry, Jenny, I didn't read your top three reasons, because I just received a copy of the first book and I'm avoiding any spoiling parts of this world - which I'm sure Julie Kagawa wrote as unique as they come as always - since I want to discover all the secrets on my own. Anyway, I'm so glad to know that you love this series! I want to read it really bad, but it's going to have to wait just a little longer until I have my shelf cleaned up from some of the old paper- and hardbacks waiting their turn and then! THEN I can read it :) I hope I'll enjoy it at least half as much as you do :)

    ReplyDelete
  20. You actually had me with the first one... but if I may add... I would also need lots more brain cells and really fast reading skills to get all the books I want to read even with an eternity. They just keep on coming! LOL

Although, we could totally go together in a martial arts class. I mean you would totally want me there with you... I would so make you look good! I may distract everyone, however. I mean laughing until you pee at me trying to do the stuff might be very distracting... ;)

    ReplyDelete
  21. "Self? I wish there were more hours in the day so I can read all the books I want to read."

Haha that's my tagline! And boy do I need extra hours lately to read!!

Both of these books are sitting on my Kindle just BEGGING to be read!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Great post, Jenny! While I wasn't a big fan of The Immortal Rules and won't be continuing this series, I'm glad so many people are on board with this. I definitely think it's much better than The Iron Fey and your reasons about vampires are fantastic! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  23. oooh yes! That is the reason to be a vamp, oh all the books I could read

    ReplyDelete
  24. Team Vampire as well!

    ReplyDelete
  25. I am definitely a curl-up-in-a-fetal-ball-and-hope-they-don't-see-me type of fighter. Me and badass simply don't go together! But it would be brilliant to be immortal and have all that reading/blogging time. I can't believe I've never thought of that before. I need to become a vampire ASAP, clearly.

    Love the post, Jenny! ;)

  26. Team Vampire. I cannot wait to see where Allison's adventures take her.

  30. Jenny-
I think you could make death sound fun! I'm definitely team Vampire, though I am also team fetal ball until we get those Katana lessons like Allie had. Also I'm not real great with the traveling alone so please tell me you'd at least travel with me if we became vampires. I'd need some snark to get me out of my funk for a little bit. The reading thing is a huge plus! And seemingly always good looking, you forgot that part!

  31. Oh, dear. Do you remember My Stepmother's an Alien? I don't think just becoming a vampire would be enough for me, I'd also have to have her reading skills.
But trust you me, if Kanin were to show up right now, I'd go willingly. I really can't wait to read this. I gave the first book only 3.5 stars because of some worldbuilding issues, but I have a feeling this one will be better.
