THE STORY (from Goodreads)

Everything repeats.
You. Your best friend. Every person you know.
Many worlds. Many lives--infinite possibilities.
Welcome to the multiverse.

Sixteen-year-old Sasha Lawson has only ever known one small, ordinary life. When she was young, she loved her grandfather's stories of parallel worlds inhabited by girls who looked like her but led totally different lives. Sasha never believed such worlds were real--until now, when she finds herself thrust into one against her will.

To prevent imminent war, Sasha must slip into the life of an alternate version of herself, a princess who has vanished on the eve of her arranged marriage. If Sasha succeeds in fooling everyone, she will be returned home; if she fails, she'll be trapped in another girl's life forever. As time runs out, Sasha finds herself torn between two worlds, two lives, and two young men vying for her love--one who knows her secret, and one who thinks she's someone she's not.

The first book in the Many-Worlds Trilogy,
Tandem is a riveting saga of love and betrayal set in parallel universes in which nothing--and no one--is what it seems.

Parallel lives seem to be the new trend in YA fiction, moving the classic trio of vamps, weres, and fairies out of the way, and slowly displacing dystopian and post-apocalyptic stories. I have to say this is a trend I'm a fan of. There's just something fascinating to me about the possibility of another me out there somewhere living a completely different life (a royal life!). My little brain just goes crazy pondering the nature vs. nurture implications of another me, and I'm a nerd, so I think it's easy to get why that makes me happy. Yes, it sounds like there's a love triangle in there *shudder* but I'm hoping for the best!

    1. It seems to be all over the place, but now that I'm trying to think about it I can only come up with Pivot Point and Parallel. I know there's more though:)

    2. Ooo and Maja says Lucid too. I haven't read that one.

  2. This trend can be a hit or miss for me. I kind of like the idea but.. it's not a easy topic for me to love! But... I am happy to see more of these instead of Dystopian!!

Oh and this book sounds awesome!! Pretty super awesome and I hope it will live up to its hype! Plus, the cover is über gorgeous!

    1. Right? I thought the same thing about the cover. I like the ones that are stunning but leave me feeling a little uncomfortable. I have high hopes for this book!

  5. My favorite book about parallel lives so far has been Lucid by Ron Bass and Adrienne Stoltz, but it seems that Tandem has a chance of taking the throne. :) I love that these aren't parallel universes exactly, not when the girls were same only on looks. It sounds very interesting.
    As always, great pick!

  6. "Parallel lives seem to be the new trend in YA fiction"

^ So true. I have yet to read one, though if I end up reading this it'll be my first. The synopsis seems to indicate that there will be a love triangle, though so I'm not sure if I will.. >_<

    1. I know, I kind of glossed over that part and am currently denying it's existence ;-) I'm hoping it turns out to be one of those well-done triangles, or one of those situations where it ends up not really being a triangle at all.

  7. I have to agree about the parallel universe/lives being the new trend in YA lately. The idea of it have always fascinates me too especially after getting hooked with the TV series, Fringe. Gotta go add this on my tbr. Thanks for sharing this, Jenny! :)

  8. Yes! I've always been fascinated at the concept of parallel universes, as well. Just think at the possibilities! Even the smallest decision could change the course of your life and send you on an entirely different path. Or at least, that's what the movie Sliding Doors told me. Love that movie. ANYWAYS. Besides the love triangle, this sounds great and the cover is really interesting too!

    1. I know! Even though it makes my head hurt to think about sometimes, I like wondering how my life might be different if I'd gone to a different college, grew up in a different city, or even something tiny like turned left instead of right. Love it:)

  9. You're right, Jenny - parallel lives seem to be a big new trend lately, and if they're half as good as my favorite, Pivot Point, then it's a trend I will happily indulge in.

Great choice! I know I'm looking forward to grabbing this one at BEA. You know this one will be at BEA, right?

    ReplyDelete

    1. No I did not know that Hannah because I do not have my finger on the pulse of BEA like you do, so I therefore rely on you for all my information!!! And how do you know this anyway? I never know who's going to be at BEA until they post the schedule. Fail.

  12. Parallel lives is a really intriguing concepts. It spurs all the time suck questions of "What if?" I know love triangles are frowned upon because it seems like a staple now, but I'm for them as long as they are done really well. Definitely have my eyes on this one!

    1. I'm hoping it's a love triangle that's done really well too - like the unearthly series. Relatively little waffling on the heroine's part, but lots of emotional intensity:)

  13. I am so excited for the release of this book! The cover is one of the best I have seen in a really long time. You're right about parallel lives being a new trend lately. Can you believe that I haven't read any though? *bows head in shame*

AND YOU HAVEN'T READ SOMETHING LIKE NORMAL?????!!!
Jenny! That book is so your kind of book! Read it ASAP! Or I'll be mad with you! >.<

  15. I really like the cover on this one! I don't know how I missed seeing this before now so thanks for posting about it!

I definitely want to check this one out now!

  16. This sounds great! I am obviously oblivious to new books somehow. I am not finding any of the books on the WOW's today. I mean, I haven't seen them anywhere.

This sounds great, though I'm a little freaked out by the thought of another me. What if your other you comes to take over your life? Where do you go? Take over another you? What if someone is trying to kill you in another multiverse so that you tries to take you out here to live your life? Nope, not liking that. Especially because she'd probably live it better than me. lol But I am fascinated by the idea. How many can there be? OH, maybe you live in your favorite book in one of them- you could live in Sweet Evil as your favorite character dating you-know-who! Maybe a trade wouldn't be so bad, for a little bit of time. Hmm, the possibilities are endless. Could you discuss this with Kevin? I'd like to hear his thoughts :)

  32. I'm liking this trend of parallel lives in YA even if I still haven't read any books based on parallel lives. The concept can be either executed or fail miserably. I haven't heard of this one but hope it falls in the former category. Time to add a new book to my wishlist :)
