Waiting on Wednesday: Tumble & Fall

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Breaking The Spine and is a fun way to see what books other bloggers just can't wait to get their hands on!

THE STORY (from Goodreads)

A novel about the end of days full of surprising beginnings

The world is living in the shadow of oncoming disaster. An asteroid is set to strike the earth in just one week’s time; catastrophe is unavoidable. The question isn’t how to save the world—the question is, what to do with the time that's left? Against this stark backdrop, three island teens wrestle with intertwining stories of love, friendship and family—all with the ultimate stakes at hand.

Alexandra Coutts's TUMBLE & FALL is a powerful story of courage, love, and hope at the end of the world.

First of all, hello gorgeous cover! Because I'm easily won over by good design, the cover alone is enough to have this book on my must-read list, but I also really like the idea of a story set pre-apocalypse rather than post. Sure, it sounds like a little bit of a downer with the impending death of the entire world, but I've always been intrigued by stories that create contrasts - light amidst the dark, beauty amidst the ugliness - and this definitely seems like it fits that bill. I can't wait!

  1. I LOVE the cover but.. I am scared about this book.. Even though I usually not want to know the end, here I need to know if I can expect a happy ending. I hate sad ending and if the work goes down.. I do not want to read this book!

    1. I know. I'm a little worried about the end as well, but I still really want to read it. I'm going to have to cheat and read the end first though:)

  2. OMG. OMG. OMG. That cover is my favorite cover of the year, NO DOUBT. It's so gorgeous I can't even. But cover aside, the synopsis sounds scary-intense, but I agree with you, also the beauty amidst the ugliness. I really hope it lives up to our expectations! FABULOUS pick this week, Jenny!

  3. I really love the cover for this one although I don't feel like it quite fits the story but I guess I'll need to read it before I can fully assess!

    1. The cover does have a lighter feel than the blurb suggests the story is, but after reading said blurb, it's kind of like it's raining fire and that fits perfectly I think.

  8. Wow, that cover is stunning! I like that it's pre-apocalypse rather than post, too. That's something that hasn't really been done before! Great pick, will definitely be adding to my GR tbr. :)

  9. To be perfectly honest, that summary has me rather scared! Sounds like one of those sad-but-brilliant books.

Though, really, I'd pick it up just for the cover!!

    1. I know, right? I'm going to have to read the end first so I'm prepared, only then will I be able to tackle the story itself. I CAN'T HELP IT!

  10. This sounds so sad -- you're gonna die no matter what, so what will you do in that time? *sniffle* Truly an interesting concept. AND GORGEOUS COVER!!

  11. I agree, the cover is lovely! I would have just added this just because of it(Yeah, I'm a shameless cover whore). Haha! But it's good to see that the idea of the story sounds fantastic and intriguing. I'm definitely going to add this on my tbr. Thanks for sharing this. :)

  13. The cover is so gorgeous, this book will do well even if it sucks. I've been known to buy books based on the cover alone, and I'm sure you have too. Fortunately, the rest sounds pretty exciting too. Hopefully, it'll be more than just a pretty package.

    1. Me too Maja, me too. I'm a sucker for a pretty cover, and it's always doubly disappointing when the story isn't as good as it's package. BUT, I've got my fingers crossed for this one.

  14. Awww what a sweet cover! I haven't seen this one before but it sounds so interesting. I also often go and read a book only because of a cover. What can I do when they're so pretty :) I hope you'll enjoy this one :)

  19. I am SO excited to read this one. Not only is it beautiful, but you're right, it's not often we get to look at a pre-apocalypse story. I'm really looking forward to seeing what the author will do with this setup. Fabulous WoW choice!

  20. Nice pick! Totally waiting for this too!

  21. I agree! One of the few ways a totally centered subject works! So need to read it as well!

  22. I'm in love with this cover. Gorgeous. Makes me crave fireflies and laying in the grass. Great pick.

  23. I absolutely love the cover for this as well, but THREE teens? My love triangle senses are tingling! As long as it doesn't have one, though, I'll likely pick this up. It sounds great!(:

  24. JENNY! I think you're totally my psychic twin this week! I have been obsessed with this book this last week, the cover is absolutely stunning, but the premise, it's not something that I would go for, but I need this book now! :)

  25. I agree with you completely on the cover. I'd pick it up just for that. But! There's also a pending apocalypse and choices and DOOM! Sounds like a lot of fun. Great pick.

  26. Nothing like a ticking clock to add some tension. This sounds different, in a good way! I must admit, I added it to my TBR list simply on the cover. But was pleasantly surprised, then intrigued, when I read the blurb.

  27. Oh that cover is stunning! I want it just for that! But I've often wondered if given a week, what would I do with that time. I actually think about it a lot because we live within a five mile radius of a nuclear power plant. Spend time with family is what I always come up with.

But as a teen, I might have a different idea. Especially if I hadn't done certain things and death was sure. I'd want to drive a car. Do other adult things. Etc...I have to read this one!

  28. The plot totally reminds me of the movie Seeking a Friend for the End of the World!

  29. The impending end of the world would be a big sort of downer to me. I was totally freaked out by that movie Deep Impact with Tea Leoni! It was a story about most of the world and population being destroyed by an asteroid and it sounds a lot like this. I'll wait and see what you think before picking this up and sobbing in the corner, Jenny! ;)

  30. *Sigh* One can only hope that the end of the world will be as romantic as that cover.

  31. I don't think I've heard of this one but I love the cover. I also think it's fascinating that the author chose to set this one in a pre-apocalyptic world rather than a post. Lol, if I end up not liking the book, at least I know all the characters will die. I know I'm evil ;)
